In 2021, conservation work was carried out on four historic models from the 1950s, exhibited in the transport department of the Museum of Technology in Warsaw.
The model was made by the mentor of Gdańsk modeling, Tadeusz Piskorzyński. This sailing ship was built in the 1950s. The conservation and restoration of the model was carried out in 2021, together with other objects from the Museum of Technology in Warsaw.
The rigging was consolidated and supplemented with silk threads. Pearl threads were used in the procedure.
The older patches of sails were left and the new ones were sewn from high-quality cotton. The canvas was also reinforced locally with fragments of silk.
Joinery additions were made of epoxy mass.
In addition to the clipper, two other sailing ships from the collection of the Museum of Technology in Warsaw (Dar Pomorza and galleon) and the SAN 0H-1 bus model were also subjected to conservation work.
The Dar Pomorza model, although technologically different from the clipper, has many stylistic similarities with Tadeusz Piskorzński's sailing ship, which may indicate the author's involvement in both works.
The object was dirty, preserved fragments of rigging were falling apart due to degradation. Improper storage or transport caused a series of mechanical injuries, leading to numerous fractures, bends and damage to the structure, especially the yardarm and bowsprit.
During the work, the masts, yardarms and bowsprit were restored to their original position, loose sails, a flag and boats were installed. The rigging was reconstructed with much stronger and more durable threads than the original ones, the polychrome was also consolidated and the missing details were reconstructed.
The author's intention was probably to present a Polish ship taking part in the Battle of Oliwa (flags and coats of arms indicate that the model galleon was built in the Gdańsk shipyard).
The model was cleaned of dirt and locally consolidated. As part of the work, minor repairs, filling in losses parts and reconstructions were also made.
We have no information about the history of the object, the way it was made (e.g. the use of plastic only for windows) indicates an early origin of the model, perhaps from the time of production of the H01 bus, i.e. from 1958-61.
